DEF Welcomes New Executive Director!
A longtime community and education leader, Sproul brings more than two decades of experience in public service, nonprofit leadership, and strategic growth. He previously served as a five-term Chair of the Dare County Board of Education, helping guide the county’s $60 million school district, and as Mayor of Kill Devil Hills, where he focused on fiscal responsibility and collaborative leadership.
Sproul’s deep roots in the Outer Banks include service with the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau, the Coalition Against Substance Abuse, and leadership roles with the Outer Banks Restaurant Association and Seafood Festival. Professionally, he has led successful marketing and community engagement initiatives in both nonprofit and private-sector roles.
As Executive Director, Sproul will oversee the Foundation’s strategic direction, fundraising, scholarships, grants, and partnerships that support students, educators, and innovative learning opportunities across Dare County.
“We are excited for this next chapter, and the leadership Ben brings to our mission,” said Susan Rhew, Chair of the Dare Education Foundation Board of Directors.
