Teacher Academy Initiative

The goal of DEF's Teacher Academy Initiative is to help our local schools recruit, train and retain high quality teachers.  Through Teacher Academy, we celebrate the profession of teaching, honor our local educators, and provide opportunities for teachers to sharpen their skills.

Tuition Assistance
DEF provides tuition assistance for school staff who complete courses that update and/or enhance their teaching skills.  DEF encourages teachers to earn and keep their National Board Certification by paying the application fee for teachers to begin the process and providing financial assistance for teachers to renew the prestigious certification.

Celebrations
DEF celebrates teachers at the begining of every year and at the end of their career. We host a welcome back breakfast for school staff in August and a Retirement Dinner in May.

Honors
DEF Honors all Dare County Schools Teachers of the Year and all Nationally Board Certified Teachers by hosting a dinner in their honor. At the Annual Teacher of the Year Dinner, the district Teacher of the Year and the district Principal of the Year are awarded $1000.00 each to attend the conference of their choice.
