Teacher Academy

The goal of DEF’s Teacher Academy Initiative is to help Dare County Schools recruit, retain and train high quality teachers.

Dare County's 2010 Teachers of the Year are: Karla Willis, Cape Hatteras Elementary School; Erin DelMonte, Cape Hatteras Secondary School of Coastal Studies; Kookie Skinner, Dare County Alternative School; Tricia Eldridge, First Flight Elementary School; Danielle James, First Flight High School; Paula Miller, First Flight Middle School; Kim Whitehurst, Kitty Hawk Elementary School; Esther Ballance


Celebrations

DEF hosts a welcome back breakfast for school staff in August, the Excellence In Education Dinner in October, and a Retirement Dinner in May.

Honors

DEF Honors all Dare County Schools Teachers of the Year and all Nationally Board Certified Teachers by hosting a dinner in their honor. At the Annual Teacher of the Year Dinner, the district Teacher of the Year is awarded $1000.00 to attend the conference of his/her choice.

National Board Certification

DEF helps teachers earn and keep their National Board Certification. 

DEF will reimburse $250 toward the application and enrollment fee. 

DEF will reimburse $100 toward additional entries required to earn certification.

DEF will reimburse $250 toward the 10 year renewal fee for Nat’l Board Teachers.
