Kindles Help Budding Readers at NHES

Pictured Above: Nags Head Elementary School (NHES) student Angela Selimi shows off one of the new Kindles purchased for NHES through a grant from the Dare Education Foundation.

Reading is an essential academic and life skill.  Like all Dare County Schools, NHES is committee to helping students learn to read.  A recent grant from the Dare Education Foundation purchased five Kindles and many e-books for a pilot a program at NHES to help 4th and 5th grade students harness the power of reading.

“It looks like the program is working,” said Jessica Loose, NHES Read 180 and ESL Teacher.  “We’ll know more at the end the school year when we look at student evaluations, but right now the students are more engaged and more excited about improving their reading skills because they have the opportunity to use the Kindles.  The use of the technology really seems to be a motivator for students.”
